Collector dossier · Awards & international press
Patrick Desgraupes has built an exceptional international record around photographs that transform fermentation into galaxies, gardens and mysterious new worlds.
The record
Patrick’s mastery lies in seeing what others overlook. Working in darkness inside the cellars of great French wine estates, he developed an original visual language—and juries across Europe, Asia and the United States took notice.
Career totals are based on the artist’s supplied biography and archive. The selected honours below are identified in the supplied award material.

Cosmogony of Wine
Desgraupes photographs a biological event few people ever see: the first fermentation after harvest. Over open vats in near darkness, carefully controlled light reveals foam, gas and grape matter as celestial forms.
The result is documentary and transformative. A working cellar becomes a private universe; the surface of wine becomes a planet, an iris or a field of stars.

For collectors
Awards cannot replace the experience of standing before a work, but they establish an important history: sustained external recognition across different juries, countries and photographic disciplines.
Patrick’s record shows more than technical excellence. It shows that the central idea behind the VAT Collection is distinctive, coherent and capable of speaking far beyond the world of wine.
